There are many ways to prevent the formation of kidney stones. Most of them are linked to our habits and the way we decide to live our lives. This is why, changing our diet, reducing the intake of certain foods and increasing the consumption of fluids, can have a good impact on the prevention of this annoying rocks.

However, these are not the only methods that are available out there to prevent the formation of kidney stones. There is a type of medicine that is used by millions around the world to prevent and treat numerous diseases. This type of medicine is called homeopathy.

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy and kidney stones

As it has been said before on this blog, kidney stones are solid formations of crystals that are located inside the kidneys. When they remain untreated, these rock formations can cause grated damage to the kidneys and consequently the entire body.

Kidney stones can be detected thanks to its symptoms (that include pain, difficulty to pee, nausea, and blood in the urine), or by the results of both blood tests or urinalysis. Since this kind of condition is one of the most common that takes place inside the kidneys, it is also one of the most commonly treated by homeopathy.

Homeopathy aims to treat the human body as a whole. It focuses on patients and persons with pathological conditions. The way it is applied is linked to the particular circumstances of each individual. Therefore, homeopathic methods are selected after a patient is examined. This examination included a physical, mental and emotional study.

In order to prevent the formation of kidney stones, homeopathy starts by analyzing if a patient has a predisposition to develop the stones. This helps to define what type of treatment that should be used. This predisposition receives the name of miasmatic tendency.

Homeopathic medicines for kidney stones

Each remedy chosen by homeopathy is defined by the therapeutic affinity with the condition that is going to be treated.

  • Argentum nitricum

This is a remedy that comes from silver and it is used to treat the chronicle formation of kidney stones. It treats the effects caused by the passage of kidney stones through the ureter and kidney channels. These effects include congestion of the tubes and pain caused by the passage of big rocks through narrow channels.

  • Belladonna

It is believed that the plant Belladonna, consumed alone or mixed with other ingredients, has the capacity to dissolve kidney stones. This plant is used to prevent irritation, spasms and the further formation of rocks that can cause pain that suddenly comes and goes.

  • Berberis

The berberis plant is a type of short bush that has been commonly used by homeopathic medicine to prevent and treat kidney stones. It helps to treat pain caused by the renal calculi and relieved colic almost instantly when the stones have already formed.

Berberis should start to be consumed once the urine’s color changes and the urge of peeing appears. It is also used to treat other types of stones such as biliary calculi.

  • Benzoic acid

This type of acid is rather used to treat kidney conditions when the stones have already formed. Once the urine starts to get a brownish color and a funky smell, it is time to consume benzoic acid. It is always recommended to also consume foods that are naturally high in benzoic acids, such as cranberries and fermented goods.

  • Sarsaparilla

This type of plant is widely used in homeopathy to treat kidney stones. It prevents the formation of the rocks and keeps that bad bacteria away from the urinary tract. It is filled with good acids, zinc and other substances that help the kidneys stay healthy.

It is a well-known remedy for its capacity to dissolve stones while they are still in the bladder. Also, the sarsaparilla is ideal to treat colic, abdominal pain and other types of stones such as biliary calculi.
